Plenty Good Room (Live)
The Plenty Good Generation
I have been doing a lot of thinking about the Greatest Generation, and I do not quibble at their title one bit. They are, and were, and will
always be the Greatest. The Greatest alumnae class in America.
The cool Seniors.
And the next generation? The Greatest's children? Us?
Baby Boomers. I hate that classification.
It says nothing about our character and speaks only to the fact that a lot of us were born. Who wouldn't have just the slightest inferiority
complex, the tiny voice of guilt at not being good enough, as the group one step down from the Greatest?
The group trying our hardest to help out the Greatest, safely, with love, until the end of their day.
I watch us walking around. I see us, tending to our parents and spouses and children and grandchildren in the best way that moment. I see us going
from call waiting to call waiting to call waiting on one phone call, attempting to keep everyone up to date. I see us losing our place when we lose
our jobs and worry about our housing. I see us figuring out a way to fix it, still on the phone.
I see us as folks of great responsibility and ever-stronger shoulders. Maybe we weren't that way forty years ago, but, boy, we are that way
We are proud of our Greatest. We are thankful for all we've learned from them. We are grateful for being born to them.
Let's rethink things, though, a minute.
We're the Plenty Good Generation.
No gloom. No doom. No boom.
