I am very excited to share our bathroom makeover with you! We have been able to use it the past couple weeks and can’t believe how much more we enjoy it. If you remember when I shared the design plans, I talked about how our contractor insisted that we keep our vanity a certain size (this was not a code reason) just because he thought it would be to tight. I listened and I should have looked into it more. It was three years ago and we were just in a hurry, trying to get both bathrooms in working order. I am very happy that we invested in marble honey comb floors and beveled edge subway tile. But we really put a lot of our money into those details for both bathrooms. So we went cheap on the res and just used what we had! I was thrilled when wanted to partner to help us finish the details and share the process of designing a bathroom with all of you! First let’s look at the bathroom before…. (PS- I will link everything at the end of this blog post for you!)
What do you think? The vanity was the main star! I talked about how I went back and forth on deciding on if we should do a double vanity or a single. I asked all of you and ended up going with a single sink rather than a double in this bathroom. For these reasons-
#1- The space isn’t huge for two people to get around each other between the tub and the vanity. That is important to factor in, even if you can fit a double you need to be able to move around.
#2- If we did go with a double vanity in this bathroom because of the size constraints we would have lost a lot of counter space. And with two girls using this bathroom and guests the counter space won out.
#3- Adding a double sink does require extra costs for the plumbing. Also the cost of splitting out the electrical for two lights and buying two lights. Not to mention buying two mirrors. Oh and you all pointed out the fact of cleaning two sinks!

If would have been selling all the complete bathroom options three years ago that they are now it would have made the process of designing a bathroom so much easier! I had moved to a new state (Connecticut from Utah) and did not know any sources or stores to go to. I wasted a lot of time 3 years ago and in the end was not happy with the choices I made because of limited sources and options. I use Wayfair all the time for clients and highly recommend it as a good starting point!
We added AZEK to the walls, it is a composite type of material that is often used as trim on the exterior or homes. You can read how we installed the.
Notice there is plenty of room?? We still can fit in a little step stool between the vanity and the toilet. As mentioned we had the marble honeycomb tile installed when we moved in, three years ago. We are still very happy with it! I feel like it is timeless and goes with our 1950’s cape.
Here is the Bathroom BEFORE from this side
We really love the vanity with the backsplash! from Wayfair came with the backsplash! We did spray paint the handles (you can read about that ). How quickly we learned that we needed a backsplash with kids and guests. Also the AZEK offers extra protection too.
I went with three different types of metals. The gold, which ended up being two different shades of gold on the faucet and the light fixture, so I blended them by spray painted the handles on the vanity to match the light fixture and black. Golds are the hardest metal to mix, especially from different vendors. Something to keep in mind. In the end I am very happy with it, you only notice it in photos, not in person.
We added a new bamboo shade to the bathroom window. We went with an inside mount rather than on the molding how it was before. This bathroom is on our second floor so you can’t see in, if you could I would make sure to get a shade that has a privacy liner or easily add one to the back.
We have hooks on the back of the door for more towels to dry and for storage. The closet previously had a bi-fold door on it. We easily took that off and added deeper shelves for more storage. Love the storage it now offers. Especially for a small bathroom and 1100 square foot house!
I keep cleaning supplies for the bathroom inside the baskets and extra supplies.
Thank you for coming by and for cheering us and sharing your ideas along the way! And my go-to for online furniture, and yes including everting in the bathroom! I did a little video tour of the bathroom below…
