THURS - DEC 20 - THE SANTALAND DIARIESVenice Theater- When a down-on-his luck wannabe actor arrives in New York City at the end of the year, the only employment he can find is at Macy’s department store -- working in Santaland for the holiday season, as a reluctant, but relentlessly cheerful, elf. Newly christened “Crumpet”, our clever anti-hero shares his observations of the mayhem in front of and behind the scenes during one chaotic December, from aggressive parents and drunken Santa’s, to flirtatious actors, poor hygiene, and the racially charged hazards of being a “Pointer Elf.” Will Crumpet find a moment of pure Christmas spirit? Will he end up in Santa’s cottage with Snowball the elf? Will he escape with his life on Christmas Eve before being torn apart by enraged customers? Based on his beloved humorous and autobiographical essays, David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries, adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello, is a wry and witty look at the combination of retail hell and theatrical spectacle that is the holiday season, a sharp, narrowly observed dark comedy. The perfect Christmas treat for grownups, this one-man show has been an annual tradition at theaters across the United States for the past twenty years.

MON - DEC 31 - SALUTE TO VIENNA - (DINNER & SHOW) - Ruth Eckerd Hall - Clearwater - Escape to Vienna’s Golden Age! With this extravaganza of beautiful music, dazzling costumes, and brilliant performances by Europe’s finest singers, dancers, police and conductors, take joy in the stories of romance, humor and adventure that will play out before you!  Salute to Vienna New Year’s Concert is a glass of sparkling champagne raised to life itself.
From confused identities and hilarious social catastrophes of 18th century bourgeoisie in Die Fledermaus, to the triumph of true love conquering all in Merry Widow, to the coquetry and charm of the Gypsy Princess whose love of cabaret singing saves the day, these stories range from the sublime to the ridiculous, and remind us not to take ourselves too seriously.
A universal language, music carries a message of friendship across nations and cultures. Salute to Vienna blends together musicians from Europe and much closer to home. It merges the delicacy of classical ballet with the flair of contemporary ballroom dancing, and it ever so beautifully ushers old world charm into the bustle of our New Year’s Season.
Step back in time and explore the sights and sounds of Vienna’s golden hour. The music of Johann Strauss, as well as Franz Lehár and Emmerich Kálmán, who crafted the operettas, waltzes and polkas you are about to enjoy, contributes to a living legacy of world-class artistry and a true flair for celebration. Our carefully selected program embodies this celebration, expressing the beauty of love, passion and romance.
Salute to Vienna is a Celebration!
Escape to Vienna’s Golden Age! With this extravaganza of beautiful music, dazzling costumes, and brilliant performances by Europe’s finest singers, dancers, and conductors, take joy in the stories of romance, humor and adventure that will play out before you! Salute to Vienna New Year’s Concert is a glass of sparkling champagne raised to life itself. Even the encores have stories to tell, with fun rituals associated with them that will connect you to listeners worldwide from the past century, and centuries to come. For example: listen carefully for the Blue Danube Waltz, and when you hear those famous first notes, applaud like you’ve never applauded before, and the conductor may just have to start the piece again! As much a hit overseas as it was at home, the Blue Danube Waltz is one of the most recognizable tunes the world over and is nothing if not a romantic ode to times past: legend has it this waltz is named for the Austrian fable which states the Danube looks blue to true lovers.
To end the concert on a jubilant note, the Radetzky March will have you clapping and tapping right the way to the last note. The Vienna Philharmonic traditionally closes its annual New Year’s Concert with this world-famous march, and the tradition to clap along in time to the direction of the conductor has been carried forward by Salute to Vienna.

FRI - JAN 25 - TAMPA BAY SEAWATER DESALINSATION PLANTGibsonton - The Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination facility is a drought-proof, alternative water supply that provides up to 25 million gallons per day of drinking water to the region.
Seawater coming into the plant goes through a rigorous pretreatment process then freshwater is separated from the seawater using reverse osmosis. The product is high-quality drinking water that supplies up to 10 percent of the region’s needs.
How the Plant Works: The Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Plant uses a process called reverse osmosis (RO) to produce drinking water from seawater.
The desalination plant is located next to Tampa Electric’s (TECO) Big Bend Power Station, which already withdraws and discharges up to 1.4 billion gallons a day of seawater from Tampa Bay, using it as cooling water for the power plant. The Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination plant “catches” up to 44 million gallons per day (mgd) of that warm seawater, separates it into drinking water and concentrated seawater and dilutes the twice-as-salty seawater before returning it to the bay.

TUES - JAN 29 -JAMES MUSEUM OF WESTERN & WILDLIFE ART St Petersburg - When you think of Florida, the colored stone walls of the Grand Canyon don't come to mind. Neither do cowboys, wolves or Native American silver-and-turquoise jewelry.  In downtown St. Petersburg, all those icons of the American West are on display in a new museum.
It's called the James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art, the 80,000-square-foot (7,400-square-meter) space is two blocks from the glittering blue waters of Tampa Bay. But at the museum's front door, visitors are transported west. For vacationers in the Gulf Coast city, it will be a fascinating cultural respite from sun, sand and palm trees.  There are 400 pieces on display, from large sculptures of Native Americans on horseback to pop-art conceptual paintings of the pioneer spirit. It's unusually earthy and rustic fare, especially for a state that's known for beaches, alligators and sanitized theme parks. Even the gallery walls are painted in earthy, Southwestern colors.
All the art was collected over decades by billionaire Thomas James, chairman emeritus of the Raymond James financial services company, and his wife Mary.  Much of the art once decorated the corporate offices of the company, which is based in St. Petersburg.
Many Western-themed collections in other parts of the country showcase works from the 19th and early 20th centuries, like Frederic Remington's famous depictions of the Old West. What's different about this collection is that nearly all the artists featured are still alive.
The collection is organized in six themes. Native American life includes artwork that tells the story of the complicated and often brutal history of how Native Americans were treated. A room called "The Jewel Box" in the Native American artists area displays contemporary Native American jewelry owned by Mary James, who has "free rein" to dip into the collection and take out "anything she wants" to wear, Chu said.
A wildlife exhibition is the only one that's not dedicated to the West. That display includes paintings and sculptures of animals from around the globe, which will delight younger visitors.
Docent led 45-minute highlights tour with additional time allowed to explore on your own.
Cool in museum wear a sweater, walking and some stairs.
Lunch (OYO) in the CANYON CAFÉ on premises or various other restaurants within walking distance.

FRI - FEB 1 - SWEET BLOSSOM ALPACA FARMDade City - You'll get to experience seeing the alpacas in their natural environment grazing in the pasture, learn why we raise them, how we care for them in Florida, and get to feel their super soft noses when feeding them.  We will have a walking tour into the fields or you can remain on deck to view Alpaca in the pastures.
Alpacas are members of the camelid family. The camels that most people are familiar with are the ones with humps; the dromedary of Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Asia, and the Bactrian camel of China and Tibet. However, there are four other camelids (without humps) that are indigenous to South America: two of them, llamas and alpacas, have been domesticated for thousands of years; whereas the other two varieties, guanacos and vicunas, continue to roam in wild herds today.
The alpaca comes in two breed-types: huacaya (pronounced wah‑KI‑ah) and suri (SOO‑ree). Huacayas, the more common type, account for about 90% of all alpacas, and have fluffy, crimpy fleece that gives the animals a teddy bear-like appearance. Suris, on the other hand, grow silky, lustrous fleece that drapes gracefully in beautiful pencil-locks.

MON - FEB 18 - “PIANO GUYS”Youkey Theatre – Lakeland - The Piano Guys are an American musical group consisting of pianist Jon Schmidt, cellist Steven Sharp Nelson, videographer Paul Anderson, and music producer Al van der Beek.  Hailing from Utah, they gained popularity through YouTube, where in 2010 they began posting piano and cello compositions combining classical, contemporary, and rock and roll music, accompanied by professional-quality videos.  In August 2016 the group surpassed one billion views on their YouTube channel, which at that time had nearly 5 million subscribers. Their first six major-label albums, The Piano Guys, The Piano Guys 2, A Family Christmas, Wonders, Uncharted, and Christmas Together each reached number one on the Billboard Classical Albums and New Age Albums charts
The Piano Guys became an Internet sensation by way of their immensely successful series of strikingly original self-made music videos. They’ve made over 65 since joining forces in early 2011, including their hit video, an innovative 10-handed version of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.” But it’s the Guys’ highly original blend of classical music with pop that has really been the cause of an Internet phenomenon that brought them to their major label self-titled debut album released on Sony Music Masterworks in 2012.

- Ruth Eckerd Hall - Clearwater - Boys have been singing at the Viennese court since the 14th century, and in 1498 - more than half a millennium ago - Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I moved his court and his court musicians to Vienna. Historians have settled on 1498 as the foundation date of the Vienna Chapel Imperial (Hofmusikkapelle) and thus the Vienna Boys Choir. Until 1918, the choir sang exclusively for the imperial court, at mass, concerts, private functions, and on state occasions.
Today, the Vienna Boys Choir consists of 100 boys between the ages of ten and fourteen, from dozens of nations, divided into four touring groups.  Each group spends nine to eleven weeks of the school year on tour.  Between them, the four choirs give 300 concerts and performances each year before almost half a million people.  They visit virtually all European countries, and are frequent guests in Asia, Australia, and the Americas.
The Vienna Boys Choir has a close association with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Together with members of the orchestra and the men of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, the choir maintains the tradition of the imperial musicians: as Hofmusikkapelle (Chapel Imperial) they provide the music for the Sunday Mass in Vienna's Imperial Chapel, as they have done since 1498. INCLUDED IN PRICE: A Brunch Buffet before the performance. The Brunch will include breakfast and lunch offerings, buffet style, along with complimentary coffee, tea, juice and water. In addition to the cash bar, Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s and Screwdrivers will also be available for purchase.

TUES - MAR 19 - HOWIE MANSION TOURHowey-In-The Hills - After almost 10 years of complete abandonment, The Howey Mansion is starting a new chapter in its history.  We will explore the grounds and home in a 1-hour fully guided historic tour. Tours include bedrooms and servant areas and photographs are welcome.
The 7,188-square-foot house off State Road 19 has taken on a new glow reminiscent of its old Florida grandeur. A cast-iron balustrade leads up to the second floor by way of a circular stair case in the foyer. A semi-circle of stained glass laden with geometric shapes frames a door made from pecky cypress.
Its original owner, William J. Howey, twice ran unsuccessfully for Florida governor. A citrus magnate who founded the small Lake County town of Howey-in-the-Hills, he once hosted the New York Civic Opera in an event that drew a reported 15,000 people on the property. He died in 1938. His widow, Mary Grace Hastings, lived there until she died in 1981.
The mansion, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was sold in 1984 to Chicago heiress Marvel Zona. She lost it in 2008 after being unable to make monthly payments. It was tied up in foreclosure proceedings — which involved years of legal wrangling, including an accusation of a forged signature on a legal document — and ended when a judge awarded the home to mortgage holder Nationstar Mortgage of Dallas. The mansion went up for sale this year and the Cowherds’ bid was accepted in April.
Now, Cowherd said he’s almost finished buying the furnishings for the second-floor bedrooms, including one where President Calvin Coolidge once stayed.

Ruth Eckerd Hall – Clearwater - “Moon River & Me” pays tribute to the life, the music, and the wonderful man himself, Mr. Andy Williams! The sensational Jimmy Osmond stars in this dynamic production that features the Moon River Band, and is filled with award-winning music, video footage of Andy, and Jimmy’s own memories of the icon he knew as a friend and mentor; this is one powerful show! If anyone is deserving of being memorialized in a phenomenal live show, it’s the iconic Andy Williams. The golden voice of beautiful songs like Moon River, Can’t Get Used to Losing You, and (Where Do I Begin) Love Story, spent the last years of his amazing career performing in Branson in his architecturally award-winning theater. As if experiencing the wonderful Jimmy Osmond isn’t enough, you’ll also see Great Britain and YouTube singing sensation, Charlie Green.
Jimmy Osmond, whose own career took flight at the age of 3 after he was introduced to the world by Williams on his popular TV variety show, is the perfect artist to honor the man he knew as a good friend and mentor. He comes to the show with an impressive history in the world of show business, having performed and recorded as both a solo artist and with his world-famous siblings, The Osmond’s, he also operates a multi-faceted production and artist management company, and is an author and cartoonist, among other interesting talents. It’s been 50 years since Jimmy first took the stage with Andy Williams, but he hasn’t forgotten the moment and the man who helped launch his career.
Charlie Green is an excellent choice to appear at the performance home of the legendary Andy Williams; known for singing classics like Mack the Knife, and Sinatra’s Summer Wind, the young crooner will certainly feel right at home! He was a fast favorite with judges and fans alike when he competed on Britain’s Got Talent, even winning over beloved grumpies, Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan.
“Moon River & Me” lets you relive that warm feeling, those flawlessly funny moments, and the marvelous music from the man who melted our hearts, Andy Williams. This loving tribute is delivered by the man we’ve adored since he was just a toddler, Jimmy Osmond; he’s capably assisted by the terrific Charlie Green, and the Moon River Band.

SUN - APR 14- “FOLLIES”The Players – Sarasota - Follies is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Goldman. The story concerns a reunion in a crumbling Broadway theatre, scheduled for demolition, of the past performers of the "Weismann's Follies," a musical revue (based on the Ziegfeld Follies), that played in that theatre between the World Wars. It focuses on two couples, Buddy and Sally Durant Plummer and Benjamin and Phyllis Rogers Stone, who are attending the reunion. Sally and Phyllis were showgirls in the Follies. Both couples are deeply unhappy with their marriages. Buddy, a traveling salesman, is having an affair with a girl on the road; Sally is still as much in love with Ben as she was years ago; and Ben is so self-absorbed that Phyllis feels emotionally abandoned. Several of the former showgirls perform their old numbers, sometimes accompanied by the ghosts of their former selves. The musical numbers in the show have been interpreted as pastiches of the styles of the leading Broadway composers of the 1920s and '30s, and sometimes as parodies of specific songs.  The musical has had a few major revivals, and several of its songs have become standards, including "Broadway Baby," "I'm Still Here," "Too Many Mornings," "Could I Leave You?" and "Losing My Mind".

THURS – APRIL 18 – BOZ SCAGGS “OUT OF THE BLUES TOUR”Van Wezel – Sarasota - is likely best known for his affiliation with the  or 1976 songs like "" and "." But through the years, he's also been crafting jazz and blues albums in homage to his earliest influences. His new album Out of the Blues, is a continuation of that practice, capping off an unofficial trilogy of albums that channel his upbringing in Oklahoma and Texas while listening to blues and early rock and roll.
Scaggs said he started playing the blues because it was a basic and simple form of guitar, but by now, he's steeped in its history. He recounts the way the blues spread to and across the United States — coming first from the Caribbean and up through Cuba, into New Orleans and up the river to the Mississippi Delta, then to cities, radio and clubs.
"As it evolved, it picked up subtleties from every stop and from everyone who used the form," he says. "If you really get back to some of the roots of it, there's a great deal of nuance and that nuance is very important to someone who listens to the blues."  Come and hear old favorites and new songs!

SUN - JUNE 2 - “FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS - DINNER (OYO) BAHAMA BREEZE - West Coast Players - Clearwater -  During an ostentatious wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee estate, five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings below.
As the evening progresses, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond and find they have more in common than a dislike for the bride—who seems to have everything but true friends.
Alan Ball’s play, “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress,” written and set in the early 1990s, is a wonderfully well-written, funny, and sensitive look at the issues and struggles of young women.
Best known for his highly acclaimed HBO series, “Six Feet Under,” and his award-winning 1999 film, “American Beauty,” Ball has a fine ability to combine dark and light humor, quirkiness, and serious themes. There is a lot of drinking, and light-hearted gossip and fooling around, but at its heart are some serious issues, and the ability of the women to come together over them and achieve community, if only for the duration of the wedding reception.
Please note that this show contains strong language and adult themes.
After the play we will be going to the Bahama Breeze for dinner (OYO) -Laid-back chain eatery featuring Caribbean entrees & tropical cocktails amid beachy decor.
